I am pleased to honor one of UNC Charlotte’s great teachers, Dr. Arnie Cann, Professor of Psychology.

I have known Arnie since he joined the faculty at UNC Charlotte in 1975. Throughout that time he has been one of the best teachers on this campus. He was a finalist for the Bank of America Award for Teaching Excellence once, but consistent with his New England character (he’s from Essex, MA), resisted repeated attempts by students and colleagues to re-nominate him.

During his tenure at UNC Charlotte he has been a trusted faculty colleague, a chair of the department, and an internationally respected scholar. But above all he has been one of the best and most influential teachers on this campus. He is not only a great friend, but a teacher much beloved by the hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students he has taught and mentored. He is renowned for his high expectations, availability to students and colleagues, his willingness to help and assist, often without having to be asked, and his brilliant and wicked sense of humor.

He is an outstanding exemplar of excellence in teaching. It is a great honor for me to be instrumental in having his name added to the teaching mural.
